1st area and 1st baptism
Hey Family,
I only have 15 minutes to write you a short email, but I wanted to tell you that I have arrived in my first area without harm. It is out of the city and is way cool ( a different atmosphere than the city ), but it has a lot of hills so it is hard to walk everywhere. My trainer is aweseome his name is Elder Hopkins, he is american and from American Fork. He has been out for a year and 8 months already, and apparently he is one of the best missionaries here. I am pretty pumped. I need all the help I can get you know.
I think we should stop mission ties because all mail has to go to the mission office, and then I only get mail at zone conferences and interviews and what not. So pretty much only 3 times a transfer, which stinks, but whatever. It would be the same amount of time if you were to write regular letters through snail mail.
Also here at this area we are going comando, which means that me and my trainer are both completely new to the area. This whole day has been just walking around trying to find where everything is. You wouldn´t believe my house.... There are only two rooms, very basic, very dirty... I will have to send some pictures, you wouldn´t believe it. There are spiders everywhere! It is insane, but I guess it is better than cockroaches.
We have a baptism scheduled on the 11th, and our goal is to get 5 baptisms this transfer. Yesterday for transfers it was crazy, I had to carry my suitcase everywhere on the buses and walk with them in the midst of all these people, in the train stations and bus stops. It is sure crazy. Every lunch there is a meal provided by the members here. I had lunch earlier it was pretty good, but I didn´t understand hardly any of the conversation. Portuguese out here is totally different than the MTC.
So anyways let the brothers know I will have to write them the regular way through snail mail, I don´t know if you want to do it the same way or we can email. I can check my email each week, and plus that is how I write a letter to my mission president. So how is summer going? Getting ready for Scout Camp and all of that good stuff? How is the ward doing, and how is Costa Vida? I love to hear from you no matter what!
The mission here is awesome, even though it is incredibly tough here with the language and walking everywhere but I wouldn´t want to be anywhere else. It is weird seeing yourself in the windows of the store and seeing that you are a missionary, it is unreal. I know that this church is true, and what I am doing is for a purpose, I don´t know what but I know the Lord is looking out for me. I love you all, I hope everything is going great. I pray for you everyday!
Love, Elder Harry Kenning
