The Supermarket Lady

Hey Everybody!

Yes, this is a new email address. The church has recently switched to a new email using google mail. The old email system was horrible, it always took forever and there was only 50mb of space. Now it´s wicked fast and I have 8gb of space. Also there is spell check with this new email, which will be nice knowing that my English is slowly dying.

Nobody knows what moving I am talking about. There is only one movie that is called ´´Ground Hog Day´´ . Bill Murray is the leading actor (the same actor who did ``A Man who knew too Little``)

Anyways...how is everyone doing? Everyone surviving the cold winter of Maine? Has there been a ton of snow lately? I didn´t have any time yesterday to write an email. Right in the middle of the transfer 17 new American missionaries arrived because their vistas got liberated. So yesterday we had a mission-wide emergency transfer. We got everything all organized, and it all went fine, except that the flight of the new Americans got delayed 3 hours. So we were all waiting around at the chapel until 7:30 at night when they finally arrived. And the meeting lasted until 9:00 at night. And the missionaries still had to go to their new areas!

I got home last night exhausted, I just about fell asleep during our planning session, and when I hit the bed I instantly fell asleep. But it was really good working hard. Working side by side with President and the Assistants to get everything done was pretty cool.

Kimball what kind of rocks do you want to draw?

I am excited to hear that the baptism went great. Jake and Grant I am so proud of you for your help with the missionaries. I bet it was awesome seeing how these two boys are growing in the gospel. And just think it´s 10x better than that in the field. Helping people everyday, feeling the spirit everyday, and having fun as well. Mission life is busy, and a lot of work, but it is totally worth it.

Last Saturday we saw a little old lady on the ground in front of the supermarket. So we went over there to help her out. It looked as if she had fallen and couldn´t get up. I went to help her up when she started cussing up a storm. Saying that I was an idiot American who doesn´t know what I am doing, and that I am here to take over Brazil, and destroy the environment. Then she went off about my companion. Then she went off about my mom ( I won´t write what she said), then gave us the middle finger ( the universal sign) So we told her to have a great morning and we left.

This month I hope we will have 3 baptisms coming up. Finally we are having some success...

This week begins carnival. Luckily I am in the city, and not down on the beach. Carnival here in Brazil is like Mardi Gra on steroids. It will start this Friday and last until Tuesday. Huge parties in the streets, lots of immorality, drugs, and violence. So missionary work this week will be put on a short stand-by.

With this new email I can send more pictures. I have a few that I would like to send, that I took yesterday here at the office.

Well I need to get going! I love you all! Take care! Be GOOD!

Love,
Elder Harry Kenning

Spiritual Thought:

Do you believe the church is true?
Are you satisfied with your testimony?
Is your testimony sufficient for your salvation?

These are a few of the questions that I was thinking of when I was preparing this spiritual thought. Because if we think everything is fine with our testimonies we have a serious problem. We need to grow and nurture our testimonies everyday. We can´t be satisfied with the same old, with the normal. That is how the Devil gets the righteous, be telling them that all is well.

2 Nephi 28

21 And others will he apacify, and lull them away into carnal bsecurity, that they will say: All is well in Zion; yea, Zion prospereth, all is well—and thus the cdevil dcheateth their souls, and leadeth them away carefully down to hell.
24 Therefore, wo be unto him that is at aease in Zion!
25 Wo be unto him that crieth: All is well!

Everyday we need to nurture our testimonies. Everyday we need to have meaningful scripture study, and meaningful prayer. Everyday we need to ask: Is this church, the true restored church? Am I doing everything possible to follow Christ?

As we do this everyday the Lord will bless us everyday with more of His spirit, and his knowledge. We will gain a greater, and stronger testimony. Because each day we will actively search for more personal spiritual experiences.

30 For behold, thus saith the Lord God: I will give unto the children of men line upon line, precept upon aprecept, here a little and there a little; and blessed are those who hearken unto my precepts, and lend an ear unto my counsel, for they shall learn bwisdom; for unto him that creceiveth I will give dmore; and from them that shall say, We have enough, from them shall be taken away even that which they have.

I know that this church is true. That I am serving a mission because the Lord wants me to. This is where I need to be. I know that this church is true because the Lord personally responds our prayers. He answered my prayer, and continues to do so everyday.
