Marcel, FHE, and the city of Saco
Hello there...
Hey everyone, how is everyone doing? How was Grant´s birthday? Was it wicked sweet? Hey, quick question, how come you guys are now going out to the movie theaters all the time? Was I not good enough for the theatres? Was I not cool enough for you guys? I see how it is, I see how when you leave, you can really see the true love.
Anyways.... This week has been nuts. I went to that crazy church last Friday. My companion and I, and 6 other missionaries showed up at the church. The pastor, as soon as we showed up started sweating like crazy. He never looked us in the eyes. He did this huge night about mormons, he gave out flyers, pamphlets and everything. For a normal person, you would think it was an interesting night. But for the rest of the people who know the gospel of Jesus Christ, you would have known that this guy had nothing. He wouldn´t let us talk, so we just sat listening. We didn´t want to cause a fight, but we wanted to be examples for that church, just like Christ would have done. That pastor was crazy though, he used our hymn book, the Book of Mormon, the Liahona, the manual for Gospel Principles, everything that you could think of to prove that this church is false. I thought it was rather funny. All of it was taken out of context, and no solid concrete backing to support his ideas.
Did you know that ´´Saco´´, in Portuguese means ´´sack´´? But the word Saco is also used in the same way that we use the word ´´crap´´ . Every time that I say I am from Saco people laugh at me. They laugh even more when I am from the Saco Ward. Well what can you do, I´m from saco, and I live on smutty lane, I think that is how life is meant to be.
WE HAD A BAPTISM LAST SUNDAY!!!!! We baptized a Japanese guy, who used to be Buddhist! His name is Marcel, he is 29 years old, kind of quiet, but a really good guy. He almost wasn´t baptized because of his mom, she didn´t want him to pay tithing. She told him ´´You are just going to throw away your money if you get baptized.´´ So we had to work really hard to get him in the water. But we did it!!! The guy on the right ( I will be sending the photo) is our Missionary Work Leader. His name is Henrique, and is an awesome guy. This ward that I am in is awesome.
So that FHE activity......
I think it would be cool for you guys to get some Book of Mormons from the missionaries, ( 4 or 5 ) and glue in the inside cover our family´s testimony of the gospel, along with our picture, and give them to the missionaries to hand out to their new investigators. Also mail me a copy of the testimony, and the picture so I can translate it in Portuguese and use it here in São Paulo. I think it would be cool!
Well I need to get going. I still have to work on P-day....
