A visit from Elder Scott, a favorite primary song, and the worst lunch ever

Hey Everybody!

How is everyone doing? According to the report from mom, everyone is behaving and everyone is doing great. That´s always good. I still can´t believe that it is already October, and it will be Halloween soon. Here the weather is just starting to heat up. It feels like I skipped winter all together, I am feeling like I should expect some snow soon, but snow doesn´t exist down here.

My companion and I have been working really hard here in this area. My area is one of the hardest in the mission, it has the nickname of the refiner´s fire. It´s funny everytime I talk with another elder and they ask what area are you from, and I respond, Humaitá, they just kind of stare at me, look at the ground, and say sorry to hear about that. But, we are turning this area around. We basically have started from the ground up, and now we have a bunch of families that are progressing toward the gates of baptism.

Yesterday was an awesome day, we were able to teach 7 really spiritual lessons. Missionary work is so exciting. So I can send photos to you guys, but I can´t download anything to these computers. It´s a security precaution, so I can´t look at photos, or I can´t look at those talks that Dad sent. I really want to see them, I guess I will just have to wait until my next area.

Yesterday I had the worst lunch ever, we had left over rice and beans that had been reheated in the microwave, and then she made a hot dog casserole with boiled eggs to put on top. Well we can´t let food go to waste, so I just stared at my companion as I swallowed each bite. Sometimes I wonder, am I in Brazil, or in the South?

So I have some awesome news. October 24th I will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet Elder Richard G. Scott. He is going to have a 3 hour meeting with our mission. Apparently he is fluent in Portugeuse so it should be both interesting and incredibly spiritual.

We had Zone Conference last week, but something went wrong with the mail, so I didn´t recieve anything! Can you believe it! But what can you do, I will have to wait until interviews which are next week. Thank you Sis. Corbett for the Liahonas, the mission has just started providing the missionaries with English, and Portugeuse Liahonas. So I won´t need you guys to send them to me anymore.

Conference was awesome, I was able to watch it in English, and wow. I don´t know why, but the scriptures, and conference seem much more spiritual, they seem to have much more meaning. It is so cool, I took so many notes, I learned so many things for my own life, and things that can be applied to my investigator´s lives.

Well, it´s that time again, I need to get going. I hope everyone is doing wicked awesome. I miss you all a ton, and love you even more.

Until next week. Be Good!

Love, Elder Harry Kenning

Spiritual Thought: I was thinking of the primary song I am trying to be like Jesus. This is my favorite primary hymn. I especially loved the talk that President Eyring gave about loving one another. He said that ´the family is the ideal setting where we can learn how to love.´And what better way to love than by following the example of Jesus Christ?

I’m trying to be like Jesus; I’m following in his ways. I’m trying to love as he did, in all that I do and say. At times I am tempted to make a wrong choice, But I try to listen as the still small voice whispers “Love one another as Jesus loves you. Try to show kindness in all that you do. Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought, For these are the things Jesus taught.”
