"We've got to be quiet and listen" - Elder Eyring
Hey Family!
How is everyone doing? Everyone enjoying the nice weather there? Finally right?
Thank you for the emails that I got, I think it is so funny that there is going
to be a Costa Vida Truck. All I can think of is Spongebob Squarepants going
around selling burritos. You will definately need to send me some pictures. But
you will need to send them by snail mail, because here at this LAN house I can´t
recieve pictures, through email.
It must have been nice for Grant and Jake that my XBOX Live account kept on
renewing for them, I can´t believe that it kept on renewing itself, I only
purchased one month worth, sounds weird. So Jake and Grant if you want to
recieve personal emails, you need to write me first okay? so I can respond, but
if not I will continue to write the general family letter.
So how am I doing, the big question.... This past week has been kind of
difficult. For one thing my companion is very unenthusiastic to work so it is
kind of frustrating, because I want to work a lot and he won´t let me. (You know
how I am) And this area is suffereing as well. We really only have two familieis
that are investigating the church right now, and the only reason why they aren´t
baptized yet is because they need to be married. Down here in Brazil marriage is
a very lengthy expensive process that causes many investigators to not be
baptized. They are our eternal investigators, and are awesome. We just pray
everyday that an opportunity will open up for them.
Last Sunday I had to give my first talk... IN PORTUGUESE!!! I only had 1 hour to
prepare it as well. It had to be 10 minutes. Needless to say it all went well. I
gave a talk on missionary work, and how all the members can be memer
missionaries. I encouraged references, and divisions. This ward also doesn´t
help us out very much as well so I was trying to get everyone pumped up. My main
objective so far has been to befriend the members so that we can get more help
from them. That is the thing about the Baixada area is that everyone is very
laid back, go with the flow ( we call them moley).
What I really need help with Dad, is good ways to hook people´s interest while
doing contacts. We do a lot of contacts, and I have tried many different ways,
but none of them seem to be working. It is tough because at times it seems we
hit brick walls.
Also on September 12th our Ward is having a huge activity with the community.
They are offering free haircuts, blood pressure measurement, and other free
services. Us as missionaries will have a big table set up passing out flyers and
getting addresses. I think I am going to be like Fred, with the spinning wheel.
If you have suggestions of what we could do for this, advertisment, material,
etc, that would be great. I think we are going to base it around the importance
of families. Our Bishop said that last year they had over 800 people there.
Pretty amazing.
Well I need to get going, by the way what you google earthed isn´t where I am.
That is a totally different Zone, it is the center of Sao Vicente. I will
probably visit there one of these days. But where I am now is a little town
called HumaĆta. Road A, number 349. You will have to try searching for that, in
the meantime I will get our actual address. Love you all, thank you so much for
all that you do, I miss you so much!
Love,
Elder Harry Kenning
p.s. I just got mom´s mission tie letter dated June 30th, I am glad to hear that
dad is glad that we stopped doing missionties. But you mentiond somehting about
the pocketknife. I haven´t recieved it yet so... yeah....

clear feeling or hav emissed the voice of the Spirit, it is because I was too
busy, too noisy inside, and too full of my own world´
Sometimes we get to caught up in doing what we think is the right thing,
sometimes we just go through the motions of each day and don´t stop and
recognize the promptings of the Holy Spirit, or value the little things in life.
I don´t know that´s my thought, that is what I have been thinking about.

Hey there! I've really enjoyed reading Harry's letters...what is his email address? I've been wanting to write him through snail mail, but haven't had the time lately since I'm about to pop with baby #2! But I'd love to at least email him and let him know that I'm thinking of him! Hope all is well....and I can't believe that it's been 5 years since I've seen you guys...way to long! love you!
