House inspection, apple pie, and swine flu
Hey Everyone!
Is Everyone doing alright enjoying summer, EFY, and preparing to go back to school? Here in Brazil it has been pretty intense. This past week has been really hard for me and my companion. A lot of our investigators have kicked themselves out of our teaching pool, and now we don´t have any investigators with a date to be baptized. Last week we had about 8. Including that family I was talking about last week, they told us that they are to busy to recieve any more interviews. So I don´t know what we are going to do, we are pretty much at square one, and this area is especially hard for contacts. But I guess the harder you work, the better the results will be, it just might be a little later than what we want.
My Portugeuse is coming along quite well. I can understand almost everything, except for when teenagers speak(they speak really fast) or when old people speak(they mumble and slur things). But things are coming along, it is really exciting.
This week is the last week of my first transfer, I can´t believe how fast it has gone by, then again I can´t believe that I have been gone for 3 months already. I also had my first interviews with President. He did them in our house, because President, and Sister inspected our house. It was quite funny because we baked them an apple pie, and lemon bars for them. We thought they were going to arrive at 8:30, but they arrived at 8. We weren´t even ready, President called and said Elders I am here! We weren´t even in our shirt and ties yet... I have never gotten dressed that fast in my life, I ended up stuffing my dirty clothes under my bed. Luckily the pie was delicious and it all worked out. I got all my letters as well, including that missionties package. Thankyou so much! I got letters from a lot of people, so I will be writing a lot today. Last week I sent out a letter to the Bailey´s and one for the ward. You should be getting it within the week.
I get along with my companion really well. We have a lot of the same interests. He really loves airsofting, so we have a lot of stories that we share with each other. He is a good missionary who follows the rules, and has a good knowledge of the gospel. I hope that I won´t be transfered this transfer. Usually your first area you stay for a transfer, but after that you usually stay in areas for a long time. Like my companion he has only been in 5 areas on his mission, and this area will probably will be his last. He goes home in November. Is Swine Flu getting really bad? It is hard for me to tell down here, because the news hypes it up so bad, but Brazil has shut down all the schools down here for the next couple of weeks. I am going to send a picture of our baptism that we had last Sunday. It was great and real battle to get him to be baptized. His name is Juliano and it was an awesome baptism.
I hope everything is going great! I hope Costa Vida is doing well, and I hope the Ward is growing! I love you all, Have a great week!
Love, Elder Harry Kenning
P.S. - Dad I have been collecting various old pamphlets about the church down here in Brazil for you. Both in English and in Portugeuse. I already have quite a big collection for you! Thank you so much for your spiritual thought about missionary work, we will definately start applying it today!
Spiritual Thought: Read ´Lessons learned from Liberty Jail´by Elder Holland It is so good because he applies the Liberty Jail experience to the Temple. Excellent
