Elder Kenning May 19th, 2009 letter
Hi Mom and Dad,
Do you miss me yet? Do you miss me yet? I sure miss you guys, I am like going through family withdrawals.
It is true that days feel like weeks, and weeks feel like days here. I can't believe I have been gone for three weeks already. My body is finally catching up to me. (as far as this schedule, and the food). I feel like the remaining month here will be a breeze.
So I sure have a lot to write about. Sunday my companion and I were in charge of setting up the sacrament. The only catch was that the whole building ran out of water cups. So we had to use big plastic cups. I was selected to to be in the CTM choir on Saturday. Yesterday (Monday) I went to the capital of Sao Paulo and sung there. It was Mormon Day and I sung three songs in Portugeus. I sang Love at Home, If the Savior stood beside me, and Here we speak Love. We sounded great, and we could feel the Spirit so strongly. I also got to meet my Mission President. He is a really cool guy. He is so excited for us, and he was telling me how are mission is the best one in the world. Our mission is strictly a walking mission only, so I am excited to not have to drive here. You should see if Bro. Abaroa knows him, because he served in the Brazil South Mission.
This week coming up will be crazy. Today I went to the Sao Paulo Temple (you should be receiving pictures), tomorrow I am getting my first haircut and I am also going to get my Brasilian ID. On Friday we were supposed to get to go proselyting, but the church has been cutting back a lot of stuff.
For example, no more trips to the Campinas Temple, no allowance money, no air conditioning, they even have cut back teachers hours. I am afraid the church is expecting a major economic fallout. Luckily I brought enough money to last me a little bit.
I am learning my first lesson in Portugeus already! It is amazing how the Spirit teaches you. The best part, is that it is not memorized sentences, but sentences I am forming in my head as I go!
But everything is great here, I just wish that I had brought that CD player with some hymns and church talks on it. But oh well. I hope everything is great and that the ward is doing well.
Love, Elder Kenning
