Elder Grant Kenning - Missionary Training Center (January 11, 2014)

Hoi minha familia,

It's so nice to be able to hear from you guys. Sorry that I didn't write yesterday, our p-day got changed to saturday, which was pretty rough. When we got here we didnt get a p-day that first week we were only able to write you guys for ten minutes. I havent been able to wash my clothes for 10 days.. I've never been so excited to do laundry haha. The MTC life has been very crazy, humbling, and so spiritual. On an average day i would wake up eat breakfast, have three hours of personal, or companion study, gym, lunch, then another three hours of classroom instruction, then dinner, next another three hours of classroom instruction then golden hour and time for bed. Its super busy, but it goes by so fast.
All the missionaries here say that the days are soo long, but the weeks are so fast. Its really true. I have two companions, Elder Spears and Elder Jardine. We are a trio, we get along quite well. Elder spears hurt himself in volleyball and sprained his ankle so he is on crutches and we have to do a lot of things for him haha (we give him a hard time :) ). As a companionship we've had the opportunity to teach our first investigator Cristina. It was crazy, at first we prepared brief outlines or scripts to say to her for our lesson plan. Our first lesson was a joke haha, it wasnt really that good of a lesson because it was like we were reading out of a book the whole time. As we progressed through the week, we memorized most of the basics in the lessons we were able to teach which made the lesson a whole lot better. I know that all that wasnt possible without the spirit. The spirit helped guide us and filled our mouths with words we didnt even know how to say or meant and we just taught her what she needed to know. We only got to teach her a total of four lessons but so far that was by far the coolest experience. We have been reassigned two new investigators and will be teaching them everyday almost for the next five weeks. My companions and I are teaching a lesson for district meeting in Portuguese and preparing talks for sacrament on faith that have to be given in Portuguese.. Its crazy. My district is comprised of 7 missionaries, my two companions who are going to Juiz De Fora, and four other Elder Saunder, Elder Kochenderfer (coke and burger, he hates that) Elder Jenkins, and Elder Navarrette. They are all cool guys, those four will be serving in Perrisicaba mission right above Sao Paulo.
I'm also really excited because we get to go to the temple later today and do some sessions. I'm so pumped, ever since I've been here I have loved listening to devotionals, studying the scriptures, and especially listening to hymns be sung. I know i'm a terrible singer haha but its just so great to hear hymns be sung here. The feeling is hard to describe. We've also had some pretty cool devotions here, we have them every sunday, and tuesday night. Last Tuesday the Presiding Bishop of the church, Bishop Stevenson came and spoke to us on "vision" It was an amazing talk. I feel like that talk was meant for me, the spirit was so strong. On sunday the Timpenogas (sorry might have spelled that wrong) temple president came and spoke, he is a professor of biblical studies and really smart. He gave us some tips on how to study effectively. Overall the MTC experience is amazing, at times im stressed out of my mind because of all the things we have to take in, but its all good. The branch Presidency has told us to read the whole book of Mormon while we are here, as well as to memorize our missionary purupose, 7 habits, D&C 4, the first vision, Baptismal prayer all in portuguese. Its very daunting and we only have 5 more weeks to do it. oh well haha
I'm honored to be a representative of Jesus Christ and his church. To spread the fullness of the gospel unto wherever i'm called to serve. THIS Church is true, i'm so blessed to be able to be here, im so grateful for you guys. You are the best family I could have ever asked for. I love and miss you guys so much! I hope all is well. Ill write you guys again around this same time next saturday. Love you Guys! Boa Sorte :)

Love, Elder Kenning

I dont have my scriptures with me so I hope this reference is right haha.

Spiritual thought: John 16:32. Although we will face tribulation on earth, we need to have "peace" because we know that Christ overcame this earth and all of our trials and tribulations. We can make it through anything, we just need to rely and have faith in Christ. Faith is Key.
