July 4th!
Family,
This last week was crazy. On July 4th we went to a members house who invited us to BBQ and watch the fireworks from his house. They have a big family. They are the Brodowski family. After eating burgers, at right about sundown, the streets and that part of the city we were in turned into a war zone. Everyone seemed to have had a huge stash of illegal fireworks. Illegal fireworks here are all fireworks that fly into the air. Once it was dark, the streets light up with fireworks on the ground and in the air. It was so much, and we were in the middle of it. The part town we were on is called Eastgate. the air smelt like BBQ ribs and burgers and gunpowder, and all you can hear was the non-stop crackle of fireworks all the way till 11pm and right at 11 it seemed to stop almost imediately like there was a law about it. We got back to our apartment at 10:15 that night.
Our Investigator Anthony Wilson is getting baptized this saturday! My first week here, we found him on the streets walking home. Now he has changed in full friendship with the church, from athiest to having a testimony. Last week he had to make a hurdle of faith. He was exposed to anit-mormon literature that diminished his faith a lot. We sat down with him immediately and in the lesson he had another converting moment after a deep discusion of how far he came, what he has felt over the last weeks and pure truth that he couldn't deny. He is even talking about serving a mission and going to byu-i. I will post pictures of the Baptism next monday after it happens.
We had Mission Council again. President Bowen has related to us that by the end of this summer and the begining of Fall the mission will begin recieving Ipads, Laptops, possibly Iphones to be able to Facebook, Skype, Facetime, email, mormon.org and Blog with Members, investigators and other missionaries. And that leaders such as District and Zone leaders will be able to access these devices to ensure the proper use of them. In our zone, in the Vietnamese district, their investigators sometimes go back to vietnam, the elders will still be able to teach them even though they across the world. We would be at the church and the investigator at the home and even a three-way with a member. The work is sure hastening. Ipads will become the areabook and every lesson we teach we would type it up and "update" it and it will notify ward auxilliars. So that they can be up to date on whats happening.
We found a new investigator who is muslim, his name is Theodor, (a very muslim name) and we will begin teaching the family next week. We've sat down with the father a few times explaining what we teach and now he is allowing us to share it with his family. When we teach any muslim President Bowen requires us to ask if his life or family would be threatened if he joined the church or met with us. They are going to be awesome.
