Bon dia minha familia!
Hey everyone!!!
How is everyone doing on this splendid Tuesday? I hope everyone is doing
awesome. This past week for me has been really crazy, and full of it´s invidual
challenges. It seems that all our appointments fell, and all support from the
ward fell. On Saturday we had a big activity called the Community Action, where
there are a lot of free servicesgiven to the community for free. Like free hair
cuts, employment placing, vision and diabetes tests, and many more. It was a
great way to get the community involved with the church. The missionaries had a
table about the importance of families.
But, our mission has a big professional quality exposition about families that
we reserved. But the office lent it out to another set of elders so we were left
withoutanything. So we pulled out our boy scout skills and painted posters. They
were pretty ugly, because boy scouts can´t paint, nor brazilians. But we tried
our best, from the activity we have a list of 100 people to go and visit,
hopefully they will let us in so we can teach them a little about the gospel.
So how is the ward doing? From the letters that I get from people, everything
sounds like it is going well, I got a postcard last week from Sis Abaroa in New
York, it was nice to recieve it. Today I have to write a lot of
letters. It must be about time to start picking some fruits and vegetables from
the ward garden, is there a lot this year?
So right now we have 5 really strong investigators. We have Luiz, Alexandre(his
son), Rafaela, Rodrigo, Valgira. Luiz and Alexandre have a lot of interest in
the church, they want to read the whole entire book of Mormon and learn what our
church is about. Rafaela is a young women who just got married to a less active.
We have reactived him, and will baptize her this Sunday. Last Saturday was their
marriage, and we were the godfathers for their marriage. It was funny for the
Elders to be there because it was kind of random and awkward.
I have my exact address so you can google earth it, I don´t live on an island,
that is where the big city is, that is where Sao Vicente, and Santos are. The
way cities work down here is that there is a big city, a metropolis with smaller
neighborhoods, like New York City. I have two neighborhoods, Humaitá and Parque
Continental.
My Portugeuse is coming along, I am starting to think in Portugeuse which is
both really cool and weird. Last Wednesday I called Sister Richardson (who can´t
speak Portuguese) and tried speaking English. It was really hard to speak it,
because I am so used to speaking Portugeuse, and being immersed in it. I am
trying so hard not to forget English, so Kimball don´t worry! The only way I
have been able to keep it going is through my Journal. I write in English, and I
have been writing a lot because most o fthe times my companion doesn´t want to
talk about anything. Needless to say my journal will be full by the time I am
done with my mission.
Dad, I really, really, loved your spiritual thought last week.I think I forgot
to say that in my email last week. I have been trying really hard this week to
be like Jesus Christ, to ´kill with kindness´I have noticed a really big
difference in the way I teach, and the way I interact with others. Now I am not
simply teaching like a robot, but I am teaching because I have a concern for my
investigators, I want them to be baptizedso that they can have an awesome life,
and eternal life.
Hey, will anyone write and tell me how the red sox are doing? Did they make it
into the playoffs, or the world series?
Next tuesday is transfers, which means I will get a new companion. This also
means my companion will be super trunky this week. Things should get interesting
this week. Well I need to get going, I hope you like the pictures! I love you
all and I hope everyone is doing well!
Love,
Elder Kenning
Spiritual Thought:
´We are not to understand that God would ever lead a man into temptation except,
perhaps, by way of wise permission, to test and prove him, thereby affording him
opportunity of overcoming and so gaining spiritual strength, which is the only
true advancement in man´s eternal course of progress.´ -Jesus the Christ p240
I know that all of our difficulties, temptations, and problems are for a wise
purpose. These help us learn how to be like our Heavenly Father, so that one day
we can be like him.
