A baptism, talking Portugese in his sleep, and whitey tighties.

Hello my beloved family!

How is everyone doing on this fine 29th day of September? I trust everyone is
doing great, staying out of trouble, and not causing to much stress on mom and
dad. mmm... So what have I been up to lately... It seems that it was just last
week that I wrote my last email. Time is just flying by, pretty soon, I will be
living down in the basement playing video games all day, eating left over
spaghetti. jk. Don´t worry dad I know.

This week has been interesting, getting used to another companion, figuring out
his strenghts and weaknesses, and figuring out his quirks. He is still just a
tender little guy. He only has 9 months on the mission and this is his first
time being Senior. He is 21 years old, but he still acts like he is 19, which is
pretty funny. He has a really weird quirk, when he gets dressed he has garments
then he puts on his white shirt, then he puts on whitey tighties over his
garments and tucks in his white shirt into the whitey tighties, superman style.
I don´t know why anyone would ever want to do that, maybe their lucky, or maybe
he doen´t like to go free bird. who knows, but I know that I don´t want to know.

We had a baptism last week, which was awesome, because we had it right after
Ward Conference which meant that we had a lot of people there to see it. We are
trying to work with the ward to build up the trust here, because in the past
there has been elders who have slacked a lot, so we are trying to show the ward
that we are really here to work. Sometimes it is an up hill battle, but things
are improving.

We have been working with a less active family a lot. They live in the Favella,
the father has had a really big problem with illegal drugs. Monday he almost
died from an overdose of drugs, when we got there thursday night it pretty
emotional. He wants to do the best he can for his family, but he feels that he
can´t. I really love that family, and I am trying all that I can do to help them
out. They have been improving rapidly through reading the Book of Mormon and
praying together. Such simple things have a great impact. I think I feel a
little bit of what dad feels of being bishop, knowing that you are only way for
them to improve theirs lives. There is a lot of responsiblity with the souls of
people you know.

On a lighter note, my companion said that Friday night I was talking in my sleep
in Portugeuse! I don´t remember my dreams, but it is funny that I was talking in
Portugeuse with him. Each day I am getting closer and closer to becoming fluent.
I am also teaching my companion English. He wants to be a Pilot when he gets
home, and he needs to know english. So he teaches me Portugeuse, and I teach
him English.

Dad, I saw a commercial on the tv that I think you would enjoy, youtube
microcamp caveman. I think you will like it.

So mom, you are asking if I need anything. Right now I don´t, white shirts are
doing fine. If you could, could you send more of those Zebra Pens, and if they
are still around could you send a frisbee for us to use on P-Day? I know these
are random, but they don´t exist down here.

Tomorrow will be Zone Conference, I am really excited because it will be an
opportunity to talk to other people. Just like dad says, Conferences are the
best. Also I will recieve mail, which is a double bonus.

Well I need to get going, I love you all, miss you tons, can´t wait until next
week! Keep on being good!

Love,
Elder Harry Kenning

Spiritual Thought:

Eternal Families:

Satan knows the mportance of families to the Plan of God. He is trying to
destroy it, be tempting us to avoid the Lord, and to do things that will
seperate us from our family.

We all want to have a happy successful family. Here are a few things that modern
day prophets have said which will help us achieve this goal.
1. Have family prayer every morning and night
2. Have FHE
3. Do things together, home projects, and make decisions together
4. Kneel together to pray
5. Learn how to be good, patient, longsuffereing, and charitable
6. Attend church regularly
7. Follow the counsel of the Lord in D&C 88:119
8. Maintain Family Histroy and Geneology

These things will help to bring unity in our families, which will bring the Holy
Ghost as well. I know that these things work, I have seen them change many
lives. By small and simple things great things are brought to pass!
