A message from Elder Holland and shocking news...Elder Kenning has lost 15 lbs.
Dear Family,
Hi. I got your letter the other day with the pictures of the raingutter regatta. It looked so exciting. I bet Kimball's boat was the best. I am glad to hear that everything is contining as normal. Let me first apologize for any spelling/grammar mistakes. Portugeuse is simpler than English and so my English has slackened off.
This week has been pretty cool and eventful. I can't believe I have been gone for a month already! 1/24th of the way done. Last Tuesday night we had a 'video' devotional given to us by Elder Holland. It was awesome. He was very blunt to the missionaries and told us the exact feelings of his heart. He said "You have been set apart to save the world". "Don't be somber or grim, but I do want you to be serious. You need to put aside childish things and become Men and Women of Christ." and he said... "This chance only comes around once, don't waste it, hit the ground running and don't stop until you drop and they will have to carry you home." Elder Holland basically told us to grow up and stop doing stupid things.
This week has been more spiritual than the past ones. I donm't know why but it is wicked cool. I was saying the prayer for our District and I was just overcome that it was very hard for me to finish, I could only finish in English. There was not one dry eye in the room. I know that that was the Holy Ghost bearing testimony to us that what we are doing is the work of God.
So I was made AP last Sunday. I don't know why there are plenty of other people who could do better than me. Hopefully I can serve my fellow Elders the best I can. Our District is now the oldest one in our Branch and so we have a lot of responsibility for the younger Districts.
How is the ward doing? The garden, the Bishopric, the Primary Presidency, or how about the Young Men's? I want to know. This time of the year is the best in Maine. Everything is coming back to life. Here everything is getting colder. It is weird today, it has been abnormally cold about 55-60. Last night I had to get out my Mr. Rogers cardigan.
Thank you so much for the chips, snickers, and m&m's. Those should hold me over for a little bit. Last Saturday I ran out of the snacks and so I was starving. It is true, I have lost some weight. I have lost about 15 lbs. already! It is weird though, it's not like I have been eating less. Who knows.
So last Saturday I had a bunch of things to do. Our District scrubbed the floor of the gym for a service project. I swear there are a lot of Elders who don't know how to clean and work hard. I guess that is what the MTC is for. Also I had my first experience with TRC. TRC is when you teach a lesson in Portugeuse and they record you on video. I look like such a dork, I definitely need to be more excited while I teach. It is really hard though especially when you are trying to do it in Portugeuse. If only you could hear my Portugeuse. You would laugh so much. But I am getting better. This Friday we are schedule to go Proselyting for real. They just give us a few Book of Mormons and turn you loose. Hopefully by then my Portugeuse will be good enough to carry on a decent conversation.
wow, this is a really long letter I am writing. My companion is on the computer so I have a bunch of extra time. Today I went to the Temple again and I loved it. I don't think I will be able to attend it at all while I am out in the field, or I might be able to go a couple of times. So I am taking advantage of every trip. How was the ward Temple trip? I can't wait until I get back to another session with you. Everytime I am in the Celestial room I think of you guys.
Well I have to go, hope all is doing well. I miss you all alot and love you tons! I pray for you everyday!
