Elder Nelson visits and Elder Kenning baptizes Adriana
Hey Everybody,
Sorry I didn´t write last week. Last week was transfers and one more time I had to worry about everything that was going on. I got a new companion. My last one was transfered to be the new Financial Secretary. I now have a brazilian comapanion. His name is Elder Silveira. He seems like a good guy. He has no computer experience other than facebook and email, so I have had to teach him a lot of stuff so he could take over my job next transfer.
I have bee liking the office, but I think I need to get out of here soon. I am going crazy. I am starting to do things like how dad would do. I am almost positve I will be transfered out of the office next transfer though. I will have 6 months here in my area/office, and it is about time for me to leave, and go on to do bigger and greater things. It´s great to have worked in the office because I know how the mission works, and now I have more rescources available to me.
I went to the new website, and it looks really awesome. Wow, I am quite really impressed, who made it? By the way how has business been? Has it been picking up lately?
Last week we had a baptism. Here name is Adriana. Her baptism was so awesome. I was able to baptize her. It was my first time since Kimball´s baptism to have this chance. I always try to get some one from the ward to baptize, so that they will have more integration inside of the ward. But she was persistant and chose me to baptize her. It was awesome, have I already said that? No one else in her family is baptized yet, they are all strict catholics, but she believes that it is her mission in life to bring all fo them to the restored church of christ. I think through her and the Spirit we will be able to baptize the rest of her family. I will attach a picture of her baptism.
This Thursday we will have a conference with Elder Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. He is going to have a special conference with just our mission. I can´t believe I will be seeing a second apostle on my mission. This hardly ever happens. Also Elder Holland, and Elder Ballard are coming down to São Paulo, they will be having other confrences as well. I have no idea why they are coming down, they aren´t going to meet with any stakes to reorganize them or anything like that. But I think they might organize the missions down here in São Paulo. I knind of hope so because they are all really messed up.
Good luck to you guys on your camping trip. Dad I can´t believe that you are going to sleep in the Armada again. You´re just a tender little guy. Just think next year we will have to go on a big family camping trip when I get home. I probable will come home on April 19th, 2011. Less than one year now!
Mother´s day I will still be in the office. I don´t know if I will call from here or from another member´s house. I will have to see if anyone offers to call home.
I am finally getting my area up to speed with the regular elders. Our mission´s standard of excellence is to baptize weekly. We had a baptism last week, we will have one this week, and the one after. This will give me 3 weeks to look for the next investigator that will be baptized. I am so glad I am serving a mission here in Brazil, rather than in the USA. It is a lot easier to teach and baptize people.
Well I need to get going, thank you so much for everything, all of the prayers. It is awesome to feel out of nowhere some added extra support, and then realize that it´s your mom, or your family, or the ward praying for you. I felt that so many times on the mission, when I was a little down, felt the Holy Spirit, then felt, your mom is praying for you right now. It´s incredible.
Thank you so much for everything! I love you all so much! I miss you too!
Love,
Elder Kenning
Spiritual Thought:
This thought is taken from a mission president seminar given by Elder Bednar. It talks a lot about missionary work, but I think it is very applicable to every day latter day saint life.
Elder Bednar (Mission President Seminar June, 2009):
“… Success is given as a gift. It is my observation that there are… missionaries who think that a formula for success exists: If I pray, if I study, and if I do what is in Preach my Gospel, then I have a right to receive success and baptisms. I have met many missionaries who work very hard, but do not baptize often. They find that they deserve a reward. We need to teach the correct principle to them that success is a gift. We need to teach: if you do everything that is in the formula the best way possible and without any expectation to be rewarded, then, you can be rewarded, because it is God´s gift. Generally, we cannot keep in our heads two mutually exclusive ideas. That is - that I have to do everything in my power, and not wait to receive anything. Truthfully, we have to think: I go to give my entire soul. I will work with all my heart, power, mind and force. And then I simply go to trust the Lord.
