Honestly, this week has had a lot of ups and downs. It was a huge change from lazy teenager to slightly less lazy missionary. Seriously though it's been pretty crazy. I was dropped off 9 days ago, with one thing in mind (That i'm going to work and nothing else), and have overtime realized that the mission is much more than hard work, it's about happiness too, and letting the holy spirit guide me to know the truth. Sure it's been extremely hard being without family and friends, (especially the first few days) but as I have focused more on what other people need instead of my own wants, I have been a lot happier. It took me a little bit to understand that, and I'm still learning.
I met my companion Öldunger Hansen, he's really cool, and he is a very hard worker, I always feel like im catching up to him. He's from Lehi, and he's the only one learning icelandic with me, in fact, our district includes him.... and me. It's working great right now though, and the portuguese elders that are next door to us are awesome.
Sometimes it's difficult to talk about hardships. I really struggled with homesickness, Saturday was especially hard, but through my faith in god and my reliance on others, i have felt a reassurance that im here for the right reasons, and that I will be Ok. I feel really good now, I've made a lot of friends here, and I love my teachers.
The Icelandic is really hard to learn, Everything is pronounced exactly how they shouldn't be. Haha but honestly it's really hard but it's only been a week and I have 8 more weeks in the MTC. I actually can't believe that it's Friday already though, this week has been pretty fast. We just had Thanksgiving here which was amazing, Elder, Neil L, Anderson came and spoke to us about how grateful he is about his family and his life through the gospel. I feel the same way, and he really helped me to understand that.
We also had a service project where we made 350,000 meals for families in need around the country. This was a great experience for me and showed how grateful I am for the things I have, and that I should focus on others who need more than I do.
I don't want to talk forever, but I can't stop, haha. I read this in Ether 12, 27. It reads "And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will i make weak things become strong unto them." this really motivated me, it's a great chapter too.
